Blast from the past ..

I used to read Calvin and Hobbes when I was a kid; it always left you with the feeling that there was something slightly more under the surface. But of course, you were a kid, so you had no idea what it was. Instead you enthralled yourself with the adventures of Spaceman Spiff, laughed at Calvin’s gallery of twisted snowman displays, and wondered what horrible slop his mother was going to serve up for him that night. That was as deep as you needed to go.

Looking back now, there was certainly a lot more to that comic than what drew children to it. I never would have thought I would be seeing a 1400+ page hardcover edition of Calvin and Hobbes, but sure enough, here it is. Pretty cool, actually.

A quick note

Las Vegas

Just a small update .. for all intents and purposes I’m finished designing the website at this point. As usual whenever I embark on a project like this I found myself going overboard. Well no more! All the basic functionality one could ever need is here, in a more or less easy to use layout. I see no real need to add anything else unless a reason presents itself down the road. It’s all about content now.

Along those lines I have started reloading stuff to the photo gallery, the most recent being the pictures from our trip out to Las Vegas. There’s a decent number of them as both myself and Riki had cameras and we were not afraid to use them. Enjoy!

Website Redesign
Friday 11 November 2005 @ 1:39 am

Well, after letting lebaige.com sit idle for months, I’ve finally renewed work on the site. What’s been done? A complete change from the ground up. Now, I liked the old setup, and believe me I put a TON of work into getting it the way I want it. Unfortunately the problem is what I just said .. it was a TON of work. Who has time for that?

Gone is .. well .. everything that was here before. We’re now running on the very easy to use blogging software Wordpress. Instead of the two months it took me to get the old site up and running, this one took me about two hours. Sure, I didn’t custom design this one much, but I think my nerd ego can handle the bruise of using someone elses work once it realizes how much free time it now has to devote to other nerdly persuits.

I moved the website to a new host, which I must say has been a huge improvement from the provider we were using before. We’re now faster, we have more storage capacity, we have more control, and most importantly, everything works.

Also changed is the general focus of the website. My original plan was for lebaige.com to serve as a portal for the entire family. I’ve since then realize that outside of my home, most LeBaige’s don’t really have much of a need for an internet portal. The site is now going to be more of a focus on my little chunk of the family.

Finally, keep in mind, I’m never really done with something like this. As usual, feedback is welcome.
