Life marches on

20091026 004It’s been a busy fall. I moved into my new home in August. It was a long, nail biting closing process. There were many times when I didn’t think the deal was going to happen for one reason or another. But in the end everything fell into place, and here we are. I still have a ton of work to do, but it’s starting to feel like home.

Logan and Conner have adjusted to their new surroundings pretty well. They do get a bit lonely over here as there aren’t many other kids in the neighborhood, but we’re finding ways to keep each other entertained. Having Jim around helps a lot, he’s quickly becoming best friends with Logan and Conner. It’s surprising how easily people become attached to a dog and vice versa. I can hardly imagine life without him now. Jim’s heart worm treatment went well. He’ll be going back to the vet in January to see if the worms are completely gone. We’re keeping our hopes up, both for him and for my wallet (vet fees are ridiculous!).

I uploaded a few videos of the house, as well as a photo album I took right after buying the place and some pictures from Logan’s 11th birthday. As usual, clicking on the “Recent Albums” link on the right side of the screen is the best way to find them.

A new life in Warrensburg
Friday 12 January 2007 @ 12:50 pm

We’re pretty much settled in at this point. Riki and I have both gone back to work and the boys are back in school. The house is 90% unpacked and put together. I still need to hang some stuff, hook a few things up, and do some good post move in cleaning. We ordered a shower door for our master bathroom from Lowes that should be installed here soon, which will be nice as I’m getting a bit tired of trucking upstairs every morning to use the boys kid sized thing. We’re also waiting on a new tv stand I ordered from The Oak Furniture Shop, a small company based out of Wisconsin. It’s supposed to be finished near the end of the month and hopefully will get here before the rest of my junk from Korea shows up.

This entire move, while stressful and a ton of work, went about as smoothly as I can imagine any move going. We’ve only had one problem, that being our main computer won’t turn on anymore. It’s down at a computer shop here in town right now as the insurance company needs a repair estimate. It’s a bit of a bummer as it had all our financial data, music, etc on it, not to mention all our televisions were hooked up to it for all the nifty Media Center stuff, but it should be fine once it’s fixed.

It’s a bit odd being back here. I’ve only moved back to the same place once before, that being when I returned to Crystal Lake for my last year of high school. Returning to work has been interesting. The 325th Bomb Squadron is gone, now designated the 13th Bomb Squadron, but it’s amazing how many of the people I used to work with are still here. The sense of deja vu walking through those halls again for the first time was overwhelming.

I’m pretty happy about the schools up here, they are so much better than the garbage that was being offered down in Arkansas. The boys have music and gym and art class finally, and for the first time I’m seeing Logan being challenged by what he’s learning. Conner will only be in the school he’s in now for one semester and then he’ll start first grade in the fall over in Ridge View where Logan is currently going. I had a chance to walk around the facilities and talk to some of the staff over there when I registered Logan for school and I was quite impressed. Arnold Drive Elementary where the boys were going before always just felt so oppressive and run down to me, this place is a breath of fresh air. Logan has a “girl friend” already, although Riki doesn’t like him calling her that. He gets all giggly when we mention her name, it’s pretty funny.

I hope the new year is treating everyone well. It appears to be sleeting out right now, the weather has been all over the place since we’ve been here. We’re both really missing all our friends back in Arkansas, but we’ve been so busy it’s hard to dwell on it too much. Once we have everything all set up and fixed I’ll be uploading some pictures from Christmas and the move and what not.

A bunch of new pictures

I uploaded a ton of pictures from the computer that I had never bothered to put on the website. Most of them are from 2006 but there are others from all the way back to 2001. If you click on “Detail” down in the lower right corner on the gallery page you’ll see icons for all the new and updated galleries when you look at stuff. There’s nothing ground breaking in there, but it’s something I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time so I’m happy. Next project, upload some videos ..

We’re moving in a few days, the packers show up Monday. I can’t really say we’ve done much to prepare. Actually we’ve pretty much done nothing. I took the kids swing set and basketball hoops apart, and that’s really about it. Monday I’ll disconnect all the computers and stuff. I’m going to leave the phone hooked up and the internet hooked up to the laptop so we’ll be reachable. If all goes well we should be up in Missouri some time Thursday evening. Exciting!
